Church Ministries
Helping Hands Ministry - The Helping Hands Ministry was organized in 2001 to help low income and/or disabled elderly improve their everyday living. Through this program, a crew composed of church members provide the labor and materials free of charge to help those identified by various organizations within the local area. The main thrust of this program is to provide wheelchair ramps, but other minor repair of homes is also provided. The ministry averages about 30 projects per year and is funded by donations and grant funds. Pictures of the crew in action can be seen by clicking on the Helping Hands link at the left.
Inmate Luncheon Ministry - The Inmate Luncheon Ministry has been active for about 8 years. The purpose of the ministry is to show our appreciation to the inmates who volunteer their time to help keep the streets, parks, and cemeteries free of weeds, limbs, and litter. We bring those inmates who have attained the status of Trusty into our church every other month and give them a hot, home cooked meal prepared by our church's Hospitality Committee. They also receive a short devotional, a period of entertainment, and a bible. We want to show them our appreciation and love and above all, reassure them of God's love. For a typical luncheon, a meal is prepared to serve approximately 65. This includes the inmates, members of the Sheriff's Department, visiting clergy, other guests, and the people that are responsible for preparing and serving the meal.
VCAM - The Victoria Christian Assistance Ministry (VCAM) provides needy families in Victoria with both food and utility bills assistance. John Wesley UMC supports VCAM in several ways. One, through donations from its church members and second, by its members volunteering to work at the ministry. The church also collects soda cans and redeems them, donating the proceeds to VCAM.
First Wednesday Ministry - The First Wednesday Ministry is a social ministry offering connection for seniors in the Victoria area that will benefit mind, body, and soul. The ministry provides opportunities for seniors to eat, meet, greet, and have fun! And you don't have to be a Methodist or a churchgoer to attend. All seniors are welcome! First Wednesday meets the first Wednesday of the month at 9:30 am and lunch is provided by John Wesley UMC. The lunch is dependent upon donations and love offerings. The agenda includes games and fellowship and a program of interest to seniors that varies from month to month.
Men's Breakfast - Men's Breakfast meets the second Wednesday of each month at the church. The program begins at 6:30 am by a hearty breakfast, excellent coffee, and good fellowship. At about 7 am, a guest speaker gives a presentation on topics that are of interest to all. You don't have to be a member of John Wesley to attend, everyone is welcome!
